Downtime Cost Calculator
Estimate lost revenue and employee time using your own business figures.
Calculate Your Downtime Cost
This planning estimate assumes 22 working days per month and 8 hours per day. It is not an industry average, a prediction, or a Castle price quote.
Your Downtime Cost Estimate
Based on 8 hours of downtime. Hourly estimate = monthly revenue ÷ 176 working hours + affected employees × hourly employee cost. Annual estimate = hourly estimate × downtime hours.
Lost revenue and idle labor may overlap; use this as a planning scenario, not an accounting total. Recovery costs, fines, and reputational effects are not included.

Frequently asked questions

The calculator combines revenue per working hour with affected employee costs, then multiplies by the downtime hours you enter.
Does this use industry averages?
No. All business figures are editable. There are no industry multipliers or asserted average outage costs.
What counts as downtime?
Time when technology problems prevent employees or customers from using essential business systems.
Frequently asked questions
How is downtime cost calculated?
The calculator estimates cost per minute as [(monthly revenue ÷ (22 working days × 8 hours × 60 minutes)) + (employees × hourly wage ÷ 60)]. It multiplies that result by 60 for hourly cost, then by your entered annual downtime hours for annual cost. These are planning estimates, not guaranteed losses.
